Ricci began her career for her work as a teen child actress for her performances as Wednesday Addams and Addams Family Values (both 1993) in The Addams Family and as Kat Harvey, in Casper. Ricci changed roles to roles for adults for the role of Kat Harvey in The Ice Storm (1997) which was followed by her highly praised role on The Opposite of Sex (2000) in which she received a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Ricci continued to be successful by delivering well-received roles in Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Monster (2003). Ricci played the lead role in Black Snake Moan, Penelope and Speed Racer. She also was in the film with Liam Neeson opposite After.Life.
