The shadows she saw in the grass inspired her to work for months on the technique that, however, did not paint the chosen object on canvas. The subject instead transforms into a representation of the subject, where the surface is the vehicle for its own painterly interpretation, especially in the case of live or perishable objects, such as people or fruit. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only work of Alexa's art that survives is the photograph. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension can only be seen in certain areas that are close to the eyes or in hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to engage with the self-created universe. In this way, she blurs the lines between photography, painting installation and performance.
